The article presented below emerges from a reflection, after elaborating the state of the art of a Doctoral thesis in Social Work, in progress, inconclusive, in which it was possible to verify the little and sporadic research developed from the discipline of Social Work about Human Rights and its relationship with the policy to manage water. In the face of the critical global situation in which more than 40% of the population is affected by water scarcity and by poor management of the resource that contravenes the human right to water and contributes significantly to the violation of other rights, we refer to the role of Social Work in the search for solutions to these problems. through research and professional practice aimed at the defense of human rights and social justice. Therefore, for this work the objective is to identify the areas of action of Social Work, in the theoretical and legal framework of the policy to manage water, called Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), with a focus based on human rights. Methodologically, it is documentary research with the technique of deductive discourse analysis, that is, based on the theory and the legal framework that includes the implementation of public policy, it should be noted that it is descriptive and exploratory in scope. For the presentation of the description, a cross-scheme is used between the human rights approach, the theory and the legal framework that support the policy to manage water and the work of the discipline of Social Work.
