Abstract

Aging involves significant hormonal changes, such as menopause and andropause, which affect the physical, emotional, and social health of older adults. This qualitative study, with a phenomenological approach, aims to analyze the perceptions of men and women over the age of 60—who are beneficiaries of public health institutions in the city of Puebla—regarding these processes. Through semistructured interviews, the study delved into their lived experiences, identifying the biopsychosocial changes they have faced, as well as the strategies they have used to reframe these life stages within their sociocultural context. The study is grounded in Husserl’s phenomenology and Merleau-Ponty’s notion of the “lived body,” allowing for an exploration of how these experiences are understood from a subjective perspective. This study generated useful information for expanding health education regarding menopause and andropause.
