In Mexico, population aging has increased the vulnerability of older adults, who face social exclusion due to limited employment opportunities and unequal access to basic services. In the state of Sonora, this situation represents a growing challenge, as the proportion of older adults continues to rise. Although public policies aimed at improving their well-being exist, they face significant limitations in terms of coverage and resources. This study documents the need for stronger state intervention and more inclusive policies that integrate older adults into social and economic life. Accordingly, the objective of this research was to analyze public policies for older adults in Sonora, assessing their effectiveness in promoting social inclusion, access to services, and quality of life among this vulnerable population. The study focuses on examining social exclusion and the shortcomings of protective policies for older adults in Sonora, evaluating their effectiveness and the barriers to access in areas such as health care, employment, and social support. Through a qualitative documentary review, current policies and their collaboration with Social Work are examined. Preliminary findings indicate that, despite existing efforts, these programs are insufficient and present significant gaps. In conclusion, the study highlights the importance of adjusting public policies to achieve effective inclusion of older adults in Sonora. Collaboration between Social Work and institutions is key to promoting dignified and participatory aging, contributing to a more equitable and inclusive society within the context of demographic aging in Mexico.
