A Century of Social Work in Chile and Mexico: Professionalization and curricular debates

The findings of comparative historical research on the social, public health and feminist agendas that contributed to the curriculum map of the first schools of social work in Chile (1925) and Mexico (1933) are presented. A comparative curriculum analysis, both qualitative and quantitative, is included, outlining the similarities and differences between the two case studies, which attempts to answer the research questions: Were there social agendas that influenced the social purpose of the profession in each case studied? How did the pioneering Mexican and Chilean founders of schools interact with these agendas? Finally, what were the emphases of the curricula and professional profiles of each of the pioneering schools analyzed? Unpublished documentary evidence is provided, such as Gabriela Mistral's correspondence describing Mexican pioneers, along with an article proposing routes for the professionalization of the School of Social Service of the Beneficencia de Santiago, founded one century ago.Downloads
